Why Counseling for Women?

As women and therapists, we understand the unique issues that women face across adulthood. We have experienced many similar challenges, be it infertility, divorce, motherhood, special needs children, careers, illness, aging, or relationship struggles.

As women, we are under enormous pressure to be everything to everyone, all while maintaining a fulfilling career, bikini perfect bodies, and meaningful relationships. This pressure comes from the outside world, and from our own internal judgement. These expectations are not only unrealistic, they are also unhealthy. We all go through hard times and experience stress that can be too much to bear alone.

We’d like to walk with you on your journey, as fellow women. We want to hear your story and help you design the next chapter the way you want it. We want to be a part of your healing and your transformation.

Motherhood

Raising children is rewarding, but it is also tough and requires a lot of time and energy from you as a mom. Having changes to your body, or more responsibilities than ever can be stressful. If you have been feeling anxious or depressed with the struggles, we can help.

Counseling for women is a great way to work through common stressors in your family dynamic and to remind you that you are doing the best you can. Counseling can also help you to prioritize your life and feel more in control of the day to day chaos in your household.

Pregnancy and Postpartum

Being pregnant can be one of the most exciting and joyful times in your life, but sometimes that is not the case.  There are many emotions in the motherhood journey that may leave you feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Experiencing an array of emotions during pregnancy and the postpartum period is natural.

Perhaps you have struggled with infertility, and are now terrified of losing a baby, again. Or, maybe your pregnancy is a surprise and you feel worried about becoming a mother.

Occasionally, you may also experience postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety, which can last anywhere from a few days to months. It’s important to seek help when you’re not feeling right  during this period of your life. We are here to help you cope with any emotions or uncertainties that may be worrying you. This is one of the biggest adjustments in your life and it’s important to take care of yourself too. We provide counseling for women in all stages of motherhood.

Marriage and Relationships

Do you feel that you and your partner are never really on the same page? Maybe you feel that you’re not being heard by your partner?

You are not alone. Many couples struggle with communication and conflict. Couples counseling is a great way to address these issues head on and we are able support you, help both individuals understand each other and work towards a renewed connection in your relationship.

Couples seek us out when dealing with a wide range of issues including fighting, loneliness or isolation, affairs, coping with stress, sexual problems or lack of intimacy, communication problems, or a lack of trust. Our goal is to uncover the deep-rooted causes behind your relationship struggles so we can help you communicate more effectively and enjoy a more relaxed home environment.

We also support women seeking to discover negative patterns in choosing romantic partners, or in staying in a difficult relationship. We can explore what attracts you to certain individuals, and help change unhealthy patterns. We love empowering women to seek the love they deserve.

If you find yourself frustrated by conflict in your family relationships or friendships, we can help. Together we will identify ways to connect or set boundaries where needed.

How Can Counseling at Connections Help?

As women,  professionals,  mothers, wives,  daughters, friends, and sisters we have personal experience with the struggles that women face on a daily basis. We enjoy guiding women in a journey of self-exploration: of their needs, emotions, and identity.

Through conversation, we can explore how your past may be affecting you in the present. We can work together to recognize your negative thoughts and change them to a more positive outlook.

As we develop a relationship we make every effort to see the whole you and challenge negative views you have of yourself. We openly ask for and accept all of your emotional experiences. It is our desire to offer women a safe space to freely be themselves.

During counseling, we support women in putting limits on their giving and taking more time for themselves. Creative outlets such as drawing, writing, journaling, or even cooking can be powerful methods of healing. Spending time in nature, doing pleasurable activities, or engaging in regular exercise are also frequent recommendations. We will support you in taking care of yourself as well as others.

Our goals are to help you develop resilience, self-awareness, and healthy coping mechanisms. We utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help  find balance in your emotional well-being.
