Working with Children & Adolescents
Throughout my previous work in hospice, I worked with families, children, couples, and individuals struggling with the grief of having a terminal illness and losing a loved one. However, I know that grief is not just associated with the loss of a loved one; Grief can follow any kind of major change, life transition, or loss. My approach to grief is to acknowledge the pain my clients feel, help them develop self-compassion, build a system of support, and develop healthy coping skills that can last a lifetime.
I also work with children from ages 6-15 struggling with anxiety, anger, difficulty focusing during class, trouble getting along with peers, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation. My goal when working with children and adolescents it to build their self-esteem through positive affirmations, identifying their cognitive distortions, and teaching mindfulness-based techniques to help keep them in the present moment.
My Approach
My approach to working with children and teens struggling with anxiety and depression also utilizes mindfulness and CBT to help them develop boundaries, coping skills, and identify their support systems. I also work with children who have big feelings, like anger, and help them understand and express those emotions in safe, constructive ways. Through play, skill-building, and supportive guidance, I help children learn how to navigate friendships, resolve conflicts, and build confidence in their relationships with others.
