Child & Teen Behaviors

If your child is having behavior problems in The Woodlands, we can help.

Understanding Child & Teen Behavior Issues

Child and teen behavior issues often reflect deeper emotional or developmental challenges, as young people navigate complex physical, emotional, and social changes. These behaviors, from acting out to withdrawal, serve as key indicators of their internal struggles and unexpressed needs. Understanding these behaviors requires a nuanced approach that considers biological, psychological, and environmental factors, and emphasizes empathy, open communication, and professional guidance to effectively support their journey towards healthy development.

Behavior Problem Therapy for Children

You feel like the one always apologizing. Your child hit another child again. Threw sand again. Had another tantrum at the park. You dread the regular phone calls from the principal during the school day, asking you to talk about your child’s behavior again. You have no idea what to do, and you have no idea why your child seems so angry and out of control of their own behaviors and impulses.

You just know that you’re embarrassed, angry, and at the end of your rope. No kids come with manuals…but sometimes we wish they did! We’ll help you figure out what’s going on and help you curb the behaviors causing trouble.

Behavior Problem Therapy for Teens

You’re worried all the time. You can’t figure out where things started to go wrong for your teenager, but now they’re engaged in all sorts of behaviors that scare you. They’re skipping school. You suspect smoking, drinking, or drugs. You suspect they’re having sex and they’re not at all ready for that responsibility. At home, when you try to confront them, they deny, shut you out, and either isolate with their phone or take off with their friends again.

Where on earth do you start? How can you convince your teen that you’re on their side and trying to protect them…and how can you protect them with all the dangerous things competing for their attention? We talk teen. Let us help. We can help your family out of this turbulent cycle.

How We Help Children & Teens with Behavior Problems in The Woodlands, TX

How we work with your family and child will depend largely on what behaviors are the most challenging for you and need to be addressed first.

Most importantly, we always use strategies supported by research, and we teach you as we go. For younger children, 2-7, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidenced-based approach that teaches parents ways to handle disruptive behaviors.  PCIT works to strengthen the relationship between the parent and child through live coaching sessions with specific strategies taught and practiced.

For older kids and teens, we use DBT, behavioral interventions, and family therapy to help with setting expectations and boundaries, and handling misbehavior.

As the parent, you are the expert on your child. Perhaps you understand some of their challenges because you know they’ve experienced a particular difficulty, such as a death or divorce. Perhaps you’re totally baffled!

In either case, you need support to set and enforce limits that keep the peace. We’ll educate you on systematic ways to bring out the behavioral changes you’re looking for, and support you weekly as you try them at home and bring back your results and questions.
