Gifted testing and assessment for children
You saw it early. A skill that showed up years before it should have, or questions you did not have answers to, or a four year old who taught themselves something nobody sat down and taught them.
Gifted assessment for placement, and for finding twice-exceptional kids whose giftedness is hiding a real difficulty.
Or your child is in school now and clearly bored. The work is too easy, the day is too long, and the boredom is starting to look like a behavior problem.
Gifted testing tells you where your child actually is, so you can put them somewhere that fits.
What the assessment includes
- Comprehensive intelligence testing
- Assessment of adaptive and daily living skills
- Behavioral assessment
- Screening of academic or pre-academic skills
- Assessment of personality characteristics associated with giftedness, such as intrinsic motivation and leadership
Why families do this
The practical reason is placement. Testing gets your child into the class or the school that will actually meet them, whether that is a gifted program, a grade skip, or a private school that can move at their speed.
The less obvious reason is that gifted testing often finds something else. A child can be gifted in one area and genuinely struggling in another. That is called twice-exceptional, and it gets missed constantly, because the giftedness hides the difficulty and the difficulty hides the giftedness. Supporting the weak area while challenging the strong one is what lets a kid use what they have.
What happens after
You come back in and we go through everything in detail and answer your questions. You get a full written report you can hand to a school.
Cost and insurance
Testing is $175 per hour. Most full evaluations land between $1,200 and $3,500 depending on what questions we are answering. We do accept some insurance for testing, and we will verify your benefits and tell you what to expect before we begin.
See our full insurance and fee information.
Where we do testing
Testing happens in person at our Woodlands office on Sawdust Road. That is the only location doing testing right now, and most evaluations are finished there in a single day.
The intake, the interviews and the feedback session can all be done virtually, so the in-person part is the testing itself.
We can only evaluate people who live in Texas.
When to call
Timing matters more than people expect. Call volume climbs at the end of the calendar year and again at the end of the school year, which are exactly the times families realize they need a report. If you know testing is coming, calling ahead of those windows is the difference between having the report when you need it and waiting for it.
