Adult Evaluations · Spring · The Woodlands · Houston · Telehealth across Texas

It’s not too late to finally understand why things have always been hard.

Many adults reach us after decades of struggling, misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or just assuming everyone found life this difficult. A thorough evaluation changes that.

Adults get missed. More often than you’d think.

ADHD diagnostics for decades were built around hyperactive boys. Autism was described through the lens of children, mostly male, with very different presentations than what many adults experience. Learning differences went unidentified when families didn’t have access, or when a child was smart enough to compensate, at a cost.

A diagnosis in adulthood isn’t a label. It’s an explanation. It’s the difference between “I’m lazy and disorganized” and “I have ADHD and my brain works differently.” Between “I’ve always been socially exhausting to myself” and “I’m autistic and masking takes a significant toll.”

It changes how you understand yourself, what support you can access, and what you’re allowed to ask for, at work, in school, and in your own life.

Adult evaluations we offer

Our team of licensed evaluators conducts comprehensive assessments for adults across a range of concerns. Each evaluation is tailored to your specific questions, not a one-size-fits-all battery.

Adult ADHD & Executive Functioning Evaluations

Attention, focus, time management, organization, working memory, and follow-through

Adult ADHD looks different from what most people picture. It’s not always hyperactivity, it’s missed deadlines, a thousand browser tabs, chronic underperformance despite real intelligence, relationships strained by forgetfulness, and a lifelong sense of trying harder than everyone else just to keep up. It’s frequently anxiety or depression on top of undiagnosed ADHD. It’s often more visible in women’s emotional experience than in the behavioral presentations historically used to diagnose.

A thorough adult ADHD evaluation rules out competing explanations, assesses executive functioning in depth, and provides documentation for workplace accommodations, academic accommodations, and medication management. We don’t diagnose from a rating scale alone, we build a complete clinical picture.

Adult Autism Evaluations

ASD assessment for adults, including late identification and women who were missed

Many adults pursuing an autism evaluation reach us after a child’s diagnosis prompted them to look at themselves differently, or after years of social exhaustion, sensory overwhelm, and a persistent sense of being fundamentally different from the people around them without knowing why. We see a significant number of women in this group, because autism in women and girls is still frequently missed by clinicians trained on outdated male-skewed profiles.

Adult autism evaluation at CCFC includes a detailed clinical interview, standardized assessment instruments designed for adults, review of developmental and clinical history, and a comprehensive report. We approach late-identified autism with the understanding that adults have often developed sophisticated coping and masking strategies that can obscure the picture, and we evaluate accordingly.

Psychological & Diagnostic Clarification Evaluations

When you need a comprehensive picture, or a fresh look at an existing diagnosis

Sometimes the question isn’t whether you have ADHD or autism, it’s “what is actually going on?” A comprehensive psychological evaluation provides that broader picture: cognitive functioning, emotional and personality assessment, diagnostic clarification across multiple domains, and treatment recommendations that actually fit what’s happening.

This evaluation is also useful when an existing diagnosis no longer seems to explain your experience, when multiple overlapping concerns haven’t been well-integrated, or when previous treatment hasn’t produced the results you expected and you want to understand why.

Test Accommodations Evaluations for Adults

Documentation for graduate school exams, professional licensing tests, and workplace accommodations

Graduate and professional licensing organizations require current, comprehensive psychoeducational documentation to grant testing accommodations such as extended time, separate testing environments, or assistive technology. Our evaluations are written to meet the specific documentation standards of these organizations, including College Board, ETS, LSAC, NBME, and state bar associations.

We also provide workplace accommodation documentation under the ADA for adults who need formal support for modifications at work. Our reports are written with the specific language these organizations require, not generic clinical language that may not meet their standards.

Older Adult Cognitive Screening

Memory, attention, and cognitive functioning, baseline assessment and concern evaluation

Cognitive screening for older adults evaluates memory, attention, processing speed, executive functioning, language, and visuospatial abilities. It is appropriate when you or someone close to you has noticed changes in memory, word-finding, organization, or daily functioning, and you want to understand whether those changes are within normal aging, represent mild cognitive impairment, or warrant further evaluation.

A cognitive screening at CCFC can establish a baseline for future comparison, identify specific areas of concern, and guide recommendations for follow-up medical evaluation, neuropsychological assessment, or community support services. Our evaluator approaches cognitive screening with sensitivity to the anxiety families often bring to this process.

An evaluation isn’t just a diagnosis.
It’s a tool for understanding yourself.

We approach every evaluation through a therapeutic lens. The goal isn’t to produce a report that labels what’s wrong with you. It’s to help you understand how your mind works, where your genuine strengths are, what’s made certain things harder than they needed to be, and how to build a life that works with your neurology rather than against it.

For many adults, an evaluation is the first time someone has looked at the full picture rather than one symptom at a time. That changes things. A diagnosis in adulthood doesn’t just explain the present, it reframes the past in ways that are often both clarifying and, honestly, a relief.

What a therapeutic assessment means for you

  • Strengths are as important as strugglesYour evaluation identifies what you do well and why, not just what’s hard.
  • Feedback is a conversation, not a deliveryYour evaluator walks you through findings in a way that makes sense for your life, not just clinical language in a report.
  • Recommendations are practical, not genericWhat to do next, for work, for relationships, for treatment, specific to you.
  • Context mattersWe integrate your history, your experience, and what you’ve already tried, this isn’t a battery applied in a vacuum.

Questions adults ask us

Can adults be diagnosed with ADHD for the first time?
Yes, and it’s more common than many people realize. Many adults with ADHD were never identified as children, particularly women, who often present differently than the hyperactive male profile historically used for diagnosis. Adults who have always struggled with focus, organization, time management, follow-through, or emotional regulation, but assumed everyone found these things as hard as they did, frequently find that an ADHD diagnosis in adulthood reframes decades of difficulty. A formal evaluation establishes whether ADHD is present, rules out other explanations, and provides documentation for workplace accommodations and treatment planning.
What does adult autism testing involve?
Adult autism evaluation at CCFC includes a clinical interview covering developmental history, current functioning, and presenting concerns; standardized autism assessment instruments adapted for adults; review of any prior evaluations or records; and a comprehensive written report. Many adults seeking evaluation have suspected autism for years, sometimes after a child’s diagnosis prompted them to look at themselves differently. We approach adult autism evaluation with the understanding that adults, particularly those who have developed strong masking strategies, may present very differently from childhood profiles.
What test accommodations does CCFC document for adults?
We provide documentation for extended time, separate testing environments, assistive technology, and other modifications for graduate school entrance exams (GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT), professional licensing exams (bar exam, nursing boards, medical boards), and workplace accommodations under the ADA. Our reports are written to meet the specific documentation requirements of these organizations, not generic clinical language that may fall short of their standards.
What is older adult cognitive screening and when is it recommended?
Older adult cognitive screening evaluates memory, attention, processing speed, executive functioning, and other domains that may shift with age or with neurological changes. It is typically recommended when an individual or their family has noticed changes in memory, word-finding, organization, or daily functioning. A cognitive screening can establish a baseline, identify areas of concern, and guide recommendations for further evaluation or support.
Does insurance cover adult psychological evaluations?
Coverage depends on the evaluation type and your specific plan. ADHD and autism evaluations for adults may be covered when there is documented clinical necessity, though coverage varies significantly by insurer and plan. Test accommodations evaluations are typically private pay. We recommend contacting your insurance provider before scheduling, and we provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
How is CCFC’s approach to evaluation different?
We take a therapeutic assessment approach, meaning we’re not just identifying what’s wrong or producing a diagnosis for documentation purposes. We’re helping you understand how your mind actually works: where your genuine strengths are, why certain things have been consistently harder than they should be, and how to build on that understanding going forward. Your feedback session is a real conversation oriented around helping you make sense of yourself, not just a readout of test scores. Recommendations are practical and specific to your actual life, not generic suggestions that apply to everyone with the same label.
