What We Do
Here at Connections Child and Family Center we understand the debilitating effect that eating disorders have on individuals and families. We know that finding treatment options can become overwhelming. We offer a comprehensive eating disorder evaluation for individuals 13 & older who may be struggling or have questions about their eating, exercise beliefs, and body image concerns.
During the eating disorder evaluation we screen for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Along with the eating disorder assessment we offer screenings for co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, social anxiety, PTSD, and Substance Use Disorder.
How This Helps You
The eating disorder evaluation process consists of an initial in-person evaluation followed up with 1-3 feedback sessions. This assessment process is comprehensive because of our commitment to provide you with the following:
- Education regarding the 5 different levels of care based on 2011 APA guidelines,
- An unbiased, provisional diagnosis based on DSM-5 Criteria
- Review of level of care treatment recommendations based on your reported signs and symptoms, and
- Options for next steps towards your recovery journey through a streamlined referral process.
Why This Works
Eating disorders are complex medical and psychiatric illnesses that each require unique treatment. We understand the complex nature of eating disorders. We offer assessment services tailored to each person’s individual needs.
Through the eating disorder evaluation process we let the 2011 APA Guidelines for Levels of Care guide us. We include medical vitals, eating behaviors and beliefs, compensatory behaviors, level of support needed for meal and snacks, level of motivation, body image concerns, co-occurring disorders, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and environmental factors. We utilize, at a minimum, the following assessment tools coupled with our clinical expertise to inform how to best care for you or your loved one.
Evaluation Tools
Body Dysmorphic Disorder Y-BOCS (BDD-YBOCS)
PTSD Checklist (PCL-5)
Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS)
Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZDAS)
