Therapy and testing for the first five years
What looks like a behavior problem at three is often a sleep problem, a language problem, or a child who does not yet have the words for what is happening inside them. We specialize in the issues that belong to early childhood, and in working with the adults who are raising them.
Infant, toddler, and preschool assessments
We test children from 12 months through age five. Testing tells you more about what is happening with your child’s development, communication, learning, socializing, or behavior, and why.
Then we work with your family to build a plan and connect you to the right services.
Assessments we offer
- Autism spectrum evaluations
- ADHD testing for preschoolers
- Developmental assessment, for medical issues or disabilities
- Infant assessment, for foster or adopted babies
- Testing for preschool admission or giftedness
Testing is done in person at our Woodlands office, and we can only evaluate children who live in Texas.
Parent consultations
Sometimes you do not need therapy for your child. You need an hour with someone who has seen this a hundred times. We consult with parents on:
- Sleep problems
- Toilet training
- Frequent crying and fussiness
- Behavior, including biting and tantrums
Parent-child therapy
Also called dyadic therapy. We treat young children and their caregiver together, because at this age the relationship is the thing that does the healing.
Every session includes you. It is play-based, because play is how a small child says what they cannot say in words. We use puppets, animals, dolls, and figures to teach new skills and help your child handle big feelings. When tantrums and hard behavior need a more direct approach, we use behavioral techniques too.
The work is aimed at three things: fewer hard days now, a closer relationship between you and your child, and fewer emotional problems later.
Foster care and adoption support
- Working alongside foster parents, kinship caregivers, biological parents during reunification, adoptive parents, and social workers
- Grief work after the loss of a primary caregiver
- Building new attachments
- Helping a child process separation and trauma
- Support and education for caregivers
School and daycare consultations
We can observe your child in their classroom and recommend changes to the environment and the approach that make behavior and learning easier. Where it helps, we provide ongoing teacher and staff training and track whether what we put in place is actually working.
We also offer teacher training, workshops, and reflective supervision.
Not sure which of these you need?
Most parents are not. Start with a free 15 minute call and we will tell you honestly what we think would help, including if that is nothing yet.
