Child & Teen Therapy in Spring, The Woodlands & Houston | Connections Child & Family Center
Child & Teen Therapy · Spring · The Woodlands · Houston · Telehealth across Texas

Your child deserves more than a therapist. They deserve a team: and so do you.

Evidence-based therapy for children and teens, with parents as active partners. We set real goals, teach the whole family, and track progress, because healing happens in systems, not in isolation. At CCFC, your child’s therapist consults weekly with a team of specialists. If your child needs an evaluation, a DBT skills class, or a different level of care, that conversation happens in our building, not by referral to a stranger.

Why most child therapy doesn’t stick

A child goes to therapy once a week. Works on skills. Parent gets a vague update at pickup. But the parent has no idea what their child is actually working on, what the treatment goals are, or how to support those skills at home.

So the child learns coping strategies in a therapy room, and comes home to a household where no one else has those tools. Of course it doesn’t stick.

Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in systems.

We do it differently.

At Connections Child & Family Center, parents aren’t spectators, they’re partners. We build treatment around the whole family system because that’s where real change happens.

Our clinicians are trained in the most effective evidence-based approaches for children and teens, and we blend those with experiential modalities like play therapy and somatic work, because genuine healing requires both science and connection.

We set measurable goals with you at the start. We track progress. We teach you the same skills your child is learning. And we adjust when something isn’t working.

What treatment actually looks like here

From your first call to your last session, you’ll always know where things stand and what comes next.

1

Free Consultation

A brief call to understand what’s happening and whether CCFC is the right fit. No pressure, no commitment.

2

Clinical Intake

A thorough first session to understand your child’s history, strengths, and presenting concerns. Parents are part of this.

3

Goal Setting Together

We set clear, measurable treatment goals with you, not for you. You’ll know exactly what we’re working toward.

4

Active Treatment

Weekly sessions using evidence-based approaches tailored to your child. Parents receive regular updates, skills, and check-ins.

5

Progress Tracking

We measure progress against goals and recalibrate when needed. You’ll never wonder if therapy is working.

You’re not a bystander.
You’re part of the treatment team.

If we’re teaching your child emotional regulation but you don’t have those tools, we’re setting everyone up to fail. If your child is learning boundaries but they’re coming home to mixed messages, the skills won’t transfer.

That’s why parent involvement isn’t optional here. It’s built into how we work.

  • We meet with parents at the start to set goals together
  • Monthly parent sessions throughout treatment
  • We teach you the same skills your child is learning
  • Skills handouts and home practice for relevant models
  • For younger children, dyadic and parent-directed models where appropriate
  • For DBT, SPACE, PMT, and PCIT, parent participation is core to the treatment
  • Progress is tracked and shared so you always know where things stand

Ask yourself: Do I know what my child is working on in therapy? Have I been taught these skills? Do I understand the goals and how we’re measuring progress? Do I feel like a partner, or a bystander?

If the answer is no, you deserve more. And at CCFC, you’ll get it.

How we treat: the approaches behind the work

We don’t apply a single method to every child. We select evidence-based treatments that match each child’s specific needs, developmental stage, and goals, and we blend them with experiential approaches because effective healing is never purely cognitive.

From early childhood through the college years

Our clinicians are trained across developmental stages, because what works for a 5-year-old is very different from what works for a 16-year-old.

Our clinicians are trained across every developmental stage. What works for a 5-year-old is very different from what works for a 16-year-old. We match the approach to the age, the stage, and the child in front of us.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions? We’re happy to talk through anything on a free consultation call.

What age children does CCFC work with?
We work with children from early childhood through adolescence, typically ages 3 through 18. We also offer therapy for young adults ages 18–25, and separate services for adults, couples, and families. If you’re unsure whether your child’s age is a fit, reach out and we’ll help you figure it out.
How are parents involved in their child’s therapy at CCFC?
Parents are active partners in treatment at CCFC, not spectators. We meet with parents at the start of treatment to set goals together, hold monthly parent sessions throughout, and teach parents the same skills their child is learning so those skills transfer to real life at home. For younger children, parents may attend sessions directly. For certain models like PCIT, PMT, DBT, and SPACE, parent participation is a core part of the treatment itself, not an optional add-on.
How is therapy at CCFC different from other practices?
Most child therapy is set up as a one-hour-a-week isolated experience where parents receive vague updates at pickup. At CCFC, we believe healing happens in systems, not just in a therapy room. We set measurable goals with families, teach parents the same tools their child is learning, track progress throughout, and recalibrate when things aren’t working. We use evidence-based treatments blended with experiential approaches like play therapy and somatic work because real change requires both science and connection.
What treatments do you use for children and teens?
We use a range of evidence-based treatments selected to match your child’s specific needs, including CBT, DBT, ERP (for OCD), Trauma-Focused CBT, EMDR, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Parent Management Training (PMT), the SPACE protocol for anxiety, play therapy, and somatic approaches. We don’t apply a single method to every child. We match the treatment to the child, the presenting concern, and the family’s goals.
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Some signs that your child may benefit from therapy: persistent anxiety, worry, or school avoidance; meltdowns, anger outbursts, or difficulty regulating emotions; changes in behavior, mood, or sleep; withdrawal from friends or activities; struggles following a loss or trauma; or a diagnosis you want support navigating. If your gut says something is off, even if you can’t name exactly what, it’s worth a conversation. We offer free consultations to help families figure out whether therapy is the right next step.
Do you offer telehealth for children and teens in Texas?
Yes. We offer telehealth for children, teens, and families throughout Texas. Our in-person locations are in Spring/Klein, The Woodlands, and Houston. Some services, including certain evaluations and group programs, are in-person only. Contact us and we’ll help figure out the best format for your family’s needs.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on your child’s specific needs and goals. Many families see meaningful progress in 8–16 sessions for focused concerns. More complex presentations, including trauma, OCD, significant emotional dysregulation, or neurodevelopmental challenges, often benefit from longer-term work. We set goals at the start and track progress throughout, so you always have a clear sense of where things stand and what comes next.
Do you accept insurance for child therapy?
We accept Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and BCBS for therapy services. We recommend verifying your specific benefits before starting. For services not covered by insurance, including most evaluations and group programs, we provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and offer payment plan options. Visit our Insurance & Fees page for full details.
